Why Your Story Deserves to Be Told
Hello Lovely Souls,
Have you ever thought about the legacy you’ll leave behind?
It’s a powerful question, and one that sits at the very heart of what I do. In this week’s episode of Soulful Snaps,
I’m diving into a topic I am deeply, truly passionate about: my belief that every single person deserves to leave a legacy, no matter their age or stage of life.
More Than Just a Picture: The Gift of a Legacy Portrait
This passion is why I am so drawn to creating legacy portraits. But what exactly are they?
For me, a legacy portrait isn’t just a beautiful image of a person. It’s a priceless container for a memory—a memory that will outlive us. It’s a tangible piece of a story that can be passed down, a visual heirloom that says, “I was here. This is who I was.”
I get the most incredible kick out of imagining a moment decades from now: a grandchild holding one of my photographs and saying, “Look at that scarf Nana’s wearing! I remember she always wore earthy tones and could tie them in the most beautiful ways…”
In that moment, a simple portrait isn't simple anymore. It becomes a portal. It sparks stories, connection, and keeps the essence of a person vibrantly alive for generations. It’s a beautiful gift, not just for the person in the frame, but for their entire family.

The truth is, a photograph becomes priceless the moment I click the shutter.
Why?
Because that specific moment—the exact light in your eyes, the genuine laugh, the way your hand rests—can never, ever be repeated. You can never relive the exact feeling, smell, or breath you took in that single frame of time.
This is why I love portraiture so much. It’s about capturing the quirkiness, the fun, the special glances, and the raw, beautiful humanity in front of my lens. It’s about seeing the sparkle in a widow’s eye as she remembers her wedding day, or the shared laugh between a father and daughter as they recall a cherished memory.
That is the magic I have the honour of preserving.
The Magic in the Moment

So, my reminder for you this week is this:
No matter your age or your stage in life, you deserve a legacy.
You deserve to be remembered, seen, and cherished in a way that only a photograph can capture. Your story is worth telling, and it is worth preserving for the ones you love.
A Gentle Reminder for You
If this has sparked something in you, I would be honoured to have a conversation. Let’s talk about how we can capture your unique story and create a legacy portrait that your family will treasure for generations.
Until next time, keep noticing the beauty, hold space for the moments that matter, and never forget—your story is a gift.
With love,
Joanne
