“What Spring Flowers Taught Me About Love, Memory, and Legacy ” Episode 10: Soulful Snaps

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. The days feel lighter, blossoms are starting to burst, and my garden is filled with my favourite double daffodils.

Spring always reminds me that brighter weather is coming, warm nights and BBQs are just around the corner, and—before we know it—Christmas conversations begin.

But this week, spring flowers also taught me something deeper about love, memory, and legacy.

I’ve had some very heartfelt conversations with my family recently, and over the weekend Mum and I had one of those chats that stays with you. She told me she doesn’t like having fresh flowers inside. For her, flowers mean funerals—lilies especially bring back waves of grief, as they do for me too.

Instead, she treasures an artificial arrangement she was gifted when Corey passed away. It’s been sitting in her lounge for 18 years now. A little dusty, yes—but that dust is part of its story. She said, “What bunch of fresh flowers lasts 18 years?”

The Language of Flowers

That really struck me. Fresh flowers are a little like digital photos—beautiful in the moment, but fleeting. Printed photos, though, are like that arrangement. They last. They carry memories forward. They become part of the fabric of family legacy.

Even their imperfections add to their beauty—just as a faded print or a dog-eared album carries a story that outlives us.

Flowers and Photographs

So the next time you’re planning family photos, let’s make them more than just images. Let’s choose a favourite spot that means something to you.

Let’s play your family’s songs. Let’s bring the food you love. Because when you look back at those photos, you won’t just see your faces—you’ll feel the laughter, the music, the warmth.

That’s what makes photos more than pictures. They’re memory anchors. They’re legacy.

Making Memories That Last

This spring, as blossoms remind us of renewal, let’s also be reminded to capture the stories that matter most. Not just for today, but for tomorrow—for our children, grandchildren, and generations beyond.

Because just like Mum’s arrangement, some memories are worth holding on to forever.

Closing Reflection

Until next Tuesday—keep noticing the beauty, hold space for the moments that matter, and remember: your story is worth capturing.

With love,
Joanne
