The Fragility and Beauty of Life – A Week to Remember

This week reminded me of just how breathtakingly fragile, beautiful, and unpredictable life can be. In just seven days, I’ve experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows — a rollercoaster of emotions that brought me face to face with the essence of why I do what I do.

At the start of the week, I met with a wonderful client — a woman whose story radiates second-chance love. She’s magnetic, confident, and so beautifully herself. Together we dreamed up an Audrey Hepburn-inspired boudoir session — a timeless gift for her partner. It’s the kind of session that celebrates authenticity, self-love, and intimacy — and honestly, she is one scorching hot woman. I know it’s going to be pure magic.

The next day, I found myself living my dream — photographing an iconic New Zealand fashion brand for the Metropole magazine cover. It was fast-paced, electric, and full of the creative energy I thrive on. Working alongside incredible women and an international model was everything I’d hoped for — a true “pinch me” moment.

Later in the week, I photographed teens at a confidence course — seeing their personalities bloom in front of the camera reminded me of the power of photography to build belief and joy at every age.

And then, life shifted.

My nan — the matriarch of our family, my guiding light — took her final breath. In her hundredth year, she’s lived through world wars, depressions, earthquakes, pandemics, and all the great changes of our world. She was mowing lawns at 97, fixing spark plugs, painting fences, and still fiercely independent until her last months.

I spent her final days by her side — reflecting on how much she shaped who I am. She taught me resilience, kindness, and the importance of doing things your own way. We shared a bond that distance never weakened — I used to write her weekly letters from my travels abroad, filling bright envelopes with stories, stickers, and love.

She showed me what it means to live fully and leave a legacy that lives beyond words.

So, this week’s Soulful Snaps is a reminder that every photo, every connection, every fleeting moment — matters. Because life is fragile. It’s romantic, challenging, sexy, heartfelt, and reflective all at once.
