Asta + Brad | Lake Hood Wedding

Asta was the most gracious JM Brides in the most chilling temperatures on her wedding day. Seriously, Asta, it was freezing. You not only endured this same autumn chill the week before at our engagement shoot in the mountains, but you were also up for round two of creating special wedding day memories with Brad and your two gorgeous girls which you will treasure for a lifetime.

Planning their special day started from afar. Asta is a kiwi girl who fell in love with an Englishman, and they call the UK home. We organised all the details via email, zoom and What’s app and it couldn’t have been easier!

Even though the day started off with rain and showers till lunchtime, they had the most beautiful day and the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever seen!

The clear walled sheltered deck at the Lake House, Lake Hood, was a picture-perfect venue with the most stunning archway made by Asta’s brother Nick and decorated with a gorgeous floral display. Their intimate ceremony with their two beautiful girls, Maisie and Aubrey, and closest family and friends was special.

At the rehearsal, I asked Asta about going over the timeline for tomorrow, and she said, “I trust you; you’ll have it organised”. That means the world to me because this trust makes all the difference when it comes to a day running smoothly and creating the space for me to get creative.

As we finished our bridal party photos, I had planned on taking some portraits on the jetty and then off to another spot I had found a few days earlier. Both Brad and Asta gave me a wee look whilst wrapped in a blanket with a bone-chilling wind whisking past as we walked to the jetty, and I said have you got one or two locations in you, and they said just one. I loved and appreciated their honesty and knew this special spot would be perfect for capturing a wide variety of portraits. So we jumped in the car with the heater on full blast and headed around the lake; by the time we got there, we all had warmed up and were ready to enjoy the magic of glowing sunset light.

Every moment was breathtaking during the day, and as the sun started to set, Asta saw a glow in the night sky to the South, which proved spectacular. They had dreamt of a stunning sunset portrait, and this chilly autumn night delivered some magic as a reward for their sweet, gracious manner throughout the day!

My heart is still racing with excitement thinking about the magic we created. Thank you all so very much for inviting me to be part of your family; it was a true honour and was much more precious than I could have dreamed.

It was a joy to capture and create their day in a JM-way, and I can’t wait to show you these images. Enjoy reliving their wedding day with me visually!

Lots of love,
Joanne xxx

“Joanne was incredible from the moment I made contact with her about our upcoming ceremony. She managed to help us organise everything while we were based in the UK, which involved a few early morning Zoom calls to ensure she had all the details she needed. We were lucky enough to receive an engagement shoot as part of the package, which really helped prepare us for what to expect on the day. Joanne scouted the perfect location for us and we couldn’t have been happier with the shots. Her pre-packed snacks and hot drinks were also an amazing touch! On the actual wedding day, her enthusiasm was exactly what we needed – she was on the go for 12 hours straight making sure she got all the incredible shots. We were absolutely amazed at the detail she was able to capture during our day. I would highly recommend Joanne to anyone – you won’t be disappointed!” Asta + Brad
